Why do people keep singling out NASCAR?

What with the "oil crisis" we are in, people keep singling out NASCAR as a "waste" of fuel that could be used for more "productive" purposes.

Well... WHY ONLY NASCAR?

What about:

They're uneducated. Thats why..

Las Vegas Motor Speedway tragedy has links to Henderson

The multicar accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway IndyCar race on Sunday, Oct. 16, was one of the worst racing tragedies in the history of National Indy Racing League competition.

This was especially so for Henderson resident Sam Schmidt, the co-owner of the No. 77 Indy car that last year's Indianapolis 500 winner, Dan Wheldon, drove. Wheldon was the sole fatality in Sunday's crash.

It was widely reported that Schmidt had high hopes and great expectations for this particular race, as he was returning to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he won his first and only Indy Racing League title as a driver 12 years earlier.

After that, Schmidt drove Indy cars that were part of the racing team he owned. However, after two track accidents—one minor and one more serious—ended his career as a driver, he became a well-known and highly respected developer and owner of Indy racing teams. His teams have won 46 competitions and five championship titles.

Schmidt's first accident occurred only a few weeks after his big 1999 win in Las Vegas at an IRL race in Texas, where he injured his foot and ankle.
