My friend once told me about a ragtime pianist playing a tack piano (prepared piano) receiving a scar from it.?

I never heard that. But the pianos in those days DID hurt a guy if he forgot to wet his thumb before sliding down all the notes. Without the lubrication, It'd cut and bruise your thumb. It happened to Billy Joel once when he was playing one of those.
