get independant mechanic to check out Certified Pre Owned Lexus before buying?

I am looking at buying a Certified Pre Owned 2007 Lexus EX 350 from a Lexus dealer. Should I get an independent mechanic inspect it before I buy it, or does a CPO designation actually attest to the condition of the car?

If it's CPO, it has an extremely meaningful extended warranty, you're fine just buying it. Even if something were to go wrong, Lexus is on the hook.
