Speeding Ticket Florida Vacation?

On the first day of my vacation I got a speeding ticket in Sarasota, FL. I live in another state, Connecticut and was driving a rental. Do I still have to pay it? The cop told me I could take an online driving safety course to avoid my insurance company

The ticket follows the license of the driver, not the car.

Not only that, but different state's Motor Vehicle Departments now exchange information, so unpaid tickets in one state can prevent you from getting your license renewed in another.
