I need to drive from Cincinnati to Sacramento. Is it better to drive through Nebraska, Cheyenne, and Salt Lake City using I-80 or through Kansas and Denver using I-70?
I will also be driving my 4 cynlinder compact car and I'm not sure if
Interstates 74 and 80. About 2,300 miles. Your car should do just fine in the mountains. The driving time is over 35 hours. You will have to stop more than once. I suggest you look for RV campgrounds if cost is an issue. Most also allow "tent"

As floodwaters recede, traffic is once again flowing on Interstate 29 through Northwest Missouri. I-29 is scheduled to reopen to traffic north of Rock Port, Mo., at 10 a.m. this morning, allowing motorists to avoid time-consuming detours when traveling from St. Joseph to Omaha, Neb., and points farther north. The interstate closed at Rock Port around June 15 because of heavy flooding in southwest Iowa. “We’re really excited to get the interstate back open,” said Melissa Black, customer relations manager for the Missouri Department of Transportation in Northwest Missouri. “We know it’s been a huge, huge inconvenience to travelers for commercial and personal reasons.” Ms. Black said Missouri’s portion of I-29 did not see any flood damage, but the same couldn’t be said for Iowa. The interstate was closed from Exit 1 at Hamburg to Exit 32 at Pacific Junction, about 15 miles south of Council Bluffs. Some scenarios called for the interstate to remain closed

Of course in the NE Corridor khas other good options not avaliable in Atlanta and probably never will be. I agree with most above – the entire project of converting HOV lanes to toll-paying money-makers was a boondoggle from the beginning.
